Until he ran away from home at the tender age of 23, the only prospects Gene had were cabbage farming or taxidermy.

Trading in his plant for a reed, Eugene Hardy joined the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir expressly to perform at the erstwhile first family's wedding functions and rallies. The band went on to make 12 classic albums about the rustic life in Jerez.

Now a much in-demand session player, Eugene still regards his youth in old N.B. with a shudder. "Sure glad I didn't bring 'im with me", he wavered. Then his bus came, but we parted amicably.
